In the last 15 days, we all have witnessed two well-established celebs under the sword of allegations, imposed on them by their own relatives. Mohd. Shami on one side is being accused of having an extramarital affair, Nawazuddin Siddiqui on the other is accused of spying on his wife, although the case of Nawazuddin may not be as huge as that of Shami's, it has somehow affected the life of Nawazuddin's.
The allegation game is not new in the life of celebrities, it has been running for years, it affects a lot, the life of celebrities, not just socially but mentally too. Though some cases are really real, most of them are just fake cases to gain some popularity by gaining sympathy. There are examples to show how celebs have been accused and what are the intentions of accusing them. Many cases are just for the revenge and some are for the personal profits.
Here are some cases which were just for personal profit or was imposed on celebrities to take revenge. From Bollywood director Madhur Bhandarkar to actor Shiney Ahuja, many celebrities have been named in similar cases alleging sexual harassment and assault. Some have been proved and others disproved.
Shiney Ahuja was on his way to becoming the next big thing in Bollywood with his impressive performances in films such as "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi" and "Gangster" but it all went south when his maid accused him of rape in 2009. She later retracted her charge but the trial court judge refused to accept it and convicted Ahuja based on circumstantial evidence. A fast-track court sentenced Ahuja to seven years' rigorous imprisonment in 2011. His appeal is pending in the Bombay High Court.
"Peepli Live" co-director Mahmood Farooqui has also been convicted and sentenced to seven years for the rape of an American scholar from Columbia University in 2015. Farooqui said he was falsely implicated. His wife, director Anusha Rizvi, is fighting the case.
In some instances, as it happened with "Fashion" director Madhur Bhandarkar, the cases have been dismissed. A model, Preeti Jain, accused him of rape in 2004. But the much written about case took a U-turn when Jain was sentenced to three years in jail for plotting Bhandarkar's murder.
Onir Dhar, the National Award-winning director of "I Am" and "My Brother Nikhil", was accused of rape by struggling actor Yuvraj Parasher. Onir, who has been open about his sexuality, said Parasher was making false claims for publicity.
As said earlier, the allegation game is not new in the industry but it somehow affects the life of celebrities. Media and we are not someone to judge or to pass judgement, it's all is in the hand of court but we, without listening to both ell, pass our judgement as someone who has been accused is indeed a culprit. We must understand that a single word penned by anyone on any platform somehow affects the life of celebrities.
